Cycling is a big deal in the Sarasota and Venice area. While the terrain is generally flat there are some interesting places to ride, even what some consider “mountain biking” in the Carlton Reserve. #1- The Legacy Trail. A no brainer. Used by over 225,000 people in 2017, the Trail stretches 10 miles from Palmer Ranch to the Venetian Waterway in Venice, then another 6 miles or so to Casperson Beach. Plans are in the works for expansion to downtown Sarasota.
#2- Myakka River State Park. Miles of canopy trails, old cabins, boat tours and gators.
#3- Boca Grande Bike Path. The first “rails to trails” project in Florida.
#4- Balm Boyette Scrub Preserve. Trail system ner Alafia.
#5- Alafia River State Park. 22 miles of mountain biking trails in an old phosphate mine.
#6- Casey Key Road. 6 miles along the Gulf of Mexico on exclusive Casey Key.
#7- Longboat Key. 11 miles of road.
#8- Cape Haze Pioneer Trail. 7.8 mile deserted trail south of Englewood.
#9- Rothenbach Park. 2.75 mile woodsy trail east of I-75.
#10- Boldlygo @ Carlton Reserve- 10 miles of mountain biking trails constructed by Sarasota County Off Road Riders (SCORR)
